Safety & Security

While the farm is generally safe and there have been no incidents on the farm, some crimes have been reported from time to time in the surrounding area. Please always be vigilant. Don’t leave valuables lying around and keep vehicles, gates, and rooms locked when not in use.

Apiary

There is a working apiary on the farm. Please do not disturb the bees or go near the beehives. The bees will not bother you if you leave them alone and don’t approach the hives. A few bees may visit you if you leave sweet food and drinks out in the open.

Snakes

Some venomous snakes are found in the area and are more common in the warmer months.
Snakes that have been observed on the farm include: Mozambique Spitting Cobra, Rinkhals, Stiletto Snake, Puff Adder and Black Mamba.

While it remains unlikely that you will come across a snake during your visit, please take note of the following:

  • Do not walk around barefoot at night.
  • Keep the room doors closed (most snakes enter through an open doorway).
  • Check under furniture and cushions for snakes before occupying the rooms.
  • Do not try and catch or corner a snake.
  • In the highly unlikely event of a bite, refer to the attached snakebite the first-aid sheet and transport the patient to the hospital immediately. Most hospitals with an Emergency Room carry anti-venom, but it is best to phone ahead of your arrival to confirm.
